Cover sl. sunned, otherwise fine. Cardinal Pole's most important work, in which he attempts to defend the unity of the church against the threat posed by his cousin (Henry VIII)'s divorce. Pole was born in Staffordshire and became a Cardinal during the Reformation; when Queen Mary ascended the English throne he returned to London, but died shortly before facing an inquisition by an unsympathetic pope. Beautifully printed in an attractive Italian font. 136 pp. plus a page of errata.
